TravelMatchr was built because visiting a place and actually experiencing it are two very different things.
Most travel tools are designed to help you book things — rooms, flights, tours. They are efficient. But efficiency is not the same as connection. You can spend two weeks in Lisbon eating at the right restaurants and visiting the right museums, and come home feeling like you never really arrived.
TravelMatchr starts from a different question: what if the most valuable thing about travel wasn't the place, but the person who showed it to you?
We built a platform where real local hosts share the version of their city that doesn't appear on any list — the neighbourhood bar they go to on Fridays, the viewpoint tourists walk past, the dishes their grandmother made. And where travelers who want that kind of experience can find them.
We are not Airbnb. Airbnb is accommodation. TravelMatchr is about the relationship between a traveler and a local — the accommodation (if any) is a consequence of that, not the product.
We are not Couchsurfing. Couchsurfing had the right spirit but no structure. We have a matching system, profiles that show who people actually are, and a community built around accountability.
We are not a tour operator. Experiences on TravelMatchr are not packages. They are invitations — from a person who lives somewhere, to a person who wants to understand it.
TravelMatchr was founded by Nuno Aires, a Portuguese developer who spent years traveling and noticed the same gap every time: the best moments always came from a local who took the time to share something real. That doesn't happen by accident. We're building the conditions for it to happen by design.
We started in Lisbon — because it's where we know the streets, the people, and the kind of host who wants to share it. We're expanding to Amsterdam next, and from there, wherever the community takes us.
We are in early beta. A small group of Founding Members — hosts and travelers who believe in this idea — are shaping what TravelMatchr becomes before we open to the public.
